Everyone knows just how busy holiday season gets and how much it cost to have as much fun. Let’s face it, the holidays are expensive. Cost like new outfits, gifts, and food and drinks can add up quickly. If you are looking for a fun way to bring in the new year without spending an arm and a leg with VIP tickets at the hottest spots in your city, hosting your own New Year’s Eve party might be the perfect idea for you. You’d be surprised how easy it is, how quickly you can get everything set up, and how much fun you’d have in the process. Ready. Set. Party!
Pick a theme
Most times a theme just takes a party from great to exceptional. A theme gives people a chance to dress up in looks that they wouldn’t normally wear, it gives you something to remember about the party, and pulls the entire party all together. Some popular NYE party themes are all black attire, champagne and bubbles, and glitz and glam. Be sure to pick a theme that is easy enough for people to pull off. Since its the end of the decade a fun theme could be favorite fashions from the decade.
Be Time Sensitive
One of the most important aspects of a New Year’s Eve party is time. No one wants to be bored of socializing and just waiting for the countdown endlessly but no one wants to be short of time either. You could ask your guests to arrive at 9:00 pm so that by 11:00 pm, they’ve danced, eaten, and are ready and excited for the countdown. Since your party will start way after dinner, instead of full sized entrees you can opt for a variety of appetizers and have a midnight snack bar.
Have Signature Drinks
Everyone wants to enter the new year in high spirits and probably with a glass of wine or their favorite cocktail. This does not mean you have to hire a bartender if you don’t have the funds, you could still serve tasty drinks on a budget by creating one or two signature drinks instead of having a full bar. You could create a signature drink bar and give people the the option choosing slices of citrus, lemon, or berries to their drinks.
My personal signature drink is called Gerri’s Spicy Margs, and it’s always a fan favorite. If you’re into spice this recipe is perfect for you. Here’s what you need:
- Tequila- I personally like Gold, but any tequila will get the job done.
- Jalapeno peppers- I like the Mezzetta tamed jalapenos from Walmart, because they give spice without being TOO spicy.
- Lime juice
- Simple Syrup
- Tajin Seasoning for the rim
- Ice
I personally like my margaritas on the rocks, so I muddle the peppers, add lime juice, tequila, simple syrup, and pour it into my cocktail shaker with ice. Shake, shake, shake…and BOOM! It’s literally so delicious!
Please don’t stop the music
A good playlist is the heart of of a good party. Create a playlist of all your favorite songs that will just get all of you to turn up and enjoy the moment. Your playlist should take you from the beginning of the party right until when the countdown begins and should get a lot more intense after that. Everyone needs to feel the vibe and be able to loosen up when they hear their favorite songs.
Throwing a party especially on New Year’s Eve should be anything but overwhelming if you remember to keep it simple and fun. Places like Party City, Walmart, Target, and even The Dollar Store have made it easy to get all of the necessary decor pieces and photo props at affordable prices.
