I have a secret, I’ve always been a huge bookworm. I think a lot of my love for reading was given to me from my mom. When I was growing up, my mom had a huge book shelf in her room of some many different genres of books. I vividly remember reading the God Don’t Like Ugly book series by Mary Monroe and from that moment on my love for reading was born.
Now as an adult, I don’t have as much time as I used to, so I listen to a lot of audiobooks; but there is nothing quite like turning the page of a physical book. I am always adding to my book list, and I’ve gotten a few requests to share my recommendations, so what better way to do that than to start a GJP Book Club. This virtual book club will be where all of my book recommendations are housed, so please leave your recommendations in the comments too!
I read a wide range of genres, but the ones that I tend to always go back to are self-help, romantic thriller, business, finance, and, spiritual books. I’ve decided to break the book club list into sections to make it easier to find something that will best suit you and your interest. With that in mind, let’s dive into the first section: self help.
- Eckhart Tolle – A New Earth. I first discovered the teachings of Eckhart Tolle while watching his Super Soul Sunday session with Oprah. What makes this book unique is that Tolle teaches how to turn uncomfortable situations like anxiety and anger into power and peace.
- Jen Sincero – You Are A Badass. In need of a major confidence booster? Jen Sincero has you covered. One thing that I love about this book is how engaging it is with the end of chapter exercises.
- Emily Ley – Grace Not Perfection. I read this book as a new mom and it changed my perspective on motherhood and life in general. I often find myself re-reading certain sections of the book when I need to be reminded to extend grace to myself and others.
- Don Miguel Ruiz – The Four Agreements. This book helps you to develop a new perspective and rid yourself of self limiting beliefs. Once you finish this book, you will have a renewed outlook on everything.
- 50 Cent & Robert Greene – The 50th Law. An extension of the 48 Laws of Power that teach you to FEAR NOTHING.
- Lara Casey – Make It Happen. Lara is such an inspirational writer and I love that her book drives her readers back to connect with God. This books helps to reinforce the point that you can be a business woman, devoted to family, and still have God at the center.
I can’t wait to share the rest of my suggestions in the other genres. What would you add to this list?
