Wellness

the best foods for healthy skin

February 22, 2018

It’s no secret that they key to having flawless skin is maintaining a healthy diet. We’ve heard about the benefits that water has for our skin, but there are certain foods that give our skin an extra glow, too. I hate to break it to you, but if you find yourself spending tons of money on the latest skincare products, but have not seen a significant change in your skin, the problem is probably your diet. Here is a list of a few of my favorite foods that give my skin a glamorous glow year ‘round.

Citrus Fruits like oranges are my go to snack for many reasons. Not only are oranges (and other citrus fruits) packed with vitamin A, which is vital in fighting bacteria causing acne, the citrus helps to rejuvenate and refresh your skin. Next time you’re craving something sweet, opt for an orange instead of a candy bar. Your skin will thank you.

Berries are also great fruits to snack on for better skin. Berries like strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries are loaded with vitamin C and other antioxidants that provide our skin with protection from the environment.

Spinach was never a favorite of mine – until I became pregnant. Now it is one of my go-to veggies. Spinach has loads of iron and vitamins like vitamin B, C, and E. If you’ve ever wanted brighter or whiter eyes trade in your lettuce for spinach next time to get a great source of lutein which keeps your eyes healthy and bright. If you don’t like the taste of spinach, try it in your smoothies, omelets, or even sautéed next time.

Almonds are one of the healthiest nuts and they are great for your hair, skin, and your nails, because they are packed with biotin. If you have dry or flaky skin it could be a sign that your body is missing biotin. In addition to helping you have better hair, clearer skin, and stronger nails, almonds are filled with the same healthy fats you would find in avocados.

Green Tea has tons of anti-inflammatory properties that are great at helping to minimize the inflammation and redness that comes with acne. Green tea is so versatile, that it can be used as a tea, as a facemask, and even as a DIY toner to unclog and shrink your pores.

What are some of you favorite foods that help clear your skin? I’d love to hear about them!
